Searching for Prayer with my Pink Hair!

Betsy Paul with her Pink Hair Prayer Patch
in solidarity and support of her best friend of 40 years, Mary,
who has breast cancer for the third time.

What's a conservative-looking gal like me doing with a patch of hot pink hair?  It's my way of standing in solidarity with my best friend, Mary, whom I met at age 15 and who now has triple negative breast cancer for the third time!  I shaved her head all three times she's had cancer, but after the second time, I just had to do something in support of her having to lose her hair . . . again.

I decided to dye my hair pink so that, when anyone in public who might notice and say something to me about my hair, I could ask the person for prayer for Mary!  My, it worked!  I spoke to more than 200 people from December to April two years ago, and many promised to pray, tell their Bible studies, their churches, their small groups, and friends.  Mary was cancer-free in April 2010.  Yahoo!  However . . .

In August 2012, Mary was once again diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer now metastatic to her rib and lymph nodes.  When she began grueling chemotherapy in September, I dyed my hair to spread the word again for Mary's healing.  We need a miracle to stop this horrible cancer that just doesn't want to give up.  Mary's a fighter and is committed to beating her cancer!  I'm committed to asking for prayer from anyone who will listen to me.

I am posting Mary's and my story this month--October--which is breast cancer awareness month.  If you have a friend or family member who has breast cancer and you want something unusual to do in solidarity, try a Pink Hair Prayer Patch to spread the word!

(HOW TO DYE YOUR HAIR:  My stylist bleached a lock of hair to totally blonde.  Then I brush on 'N Rage Demi-Permanent Color which I purchase at Sally's in Bubble Gum Pink.  The dye fades over about a week's time to a light pink, so I brush on new color about every 5-7 days.  I'll continue this until Mary is cancer-free again.)
